HPV Vaccination Programme Update
If you have missed your HPV vaccine you are able to receive the dose until your 25th birthday at Wellspring Surgery. The information below is on the updated recommendation from JCVI. This change is based on compelling evidence from global studies and aligns with other countries like Australia and Scotland. The HPV vaccine effectively prevents HPV-related cancers, including cervical, head and neck, and genital cancers.
Starting September 2023, the updated advice from JCVI recommends a single dose for teenagers and eligible GBMSM under 25.
Here's what you should know:
- Routine adolescent HPV immunisation for Year 8 children (aged 12 to 13) will move to a one-dose regimen, primarily administered in secondary schools.
- Eligible GBMSM under 25 will receive a single dose through sexual health clinics.
- GBMSM aged 25 to 45 will continue with the two-dose schedule at sexual health clinics.
- Immunosuppressed and HIV-positive individuals will remain on a three-dose schedule.
