HIV and Hepatitis C Testing

At Wellspring Surgery, we are taking a proactive approach to testing for HIV and Hepatitis C, in line with current testing policies at local emergency departments.

If you are having blood tests at the surgery, we will now offer to add HIV and Hepatitis C tests if you have not had these tests within the last year. These tests can usually be done from the same blood sample, so there is no need for an additional blood draw.

You can also contact us to arrange a blood test specifically for HIV and Hepatitis C if you would like to be tested.

Why are we doing this?

HIV and viral hepatitis can sometimes remain undetected for many years, without causing obvious symptoms. If left untreated, they can lead to serious health complications.

Routine testing helps us:

  • Identify people living with these viruses earlier
  • Offer effective treatment and support
  • Prevent serious complications
  • Reduce onward transmission
  • Ultimately, save lives

With early diagnosis and appropriate treatment, people living with HIV or viral hepatitis can live long and healthy lives, and treatment can substantially reduce the risk of passing the infection on to others.

Would you like to be tested?

Please contact Wellspring Surgery if you would like to arrange a blood test for HIV and Hepatitis C, or if you would like to discuss the testing with a member of the practice team.

Testing is an important part of looking after your health, and we encourage everyone who is eligible to take up the opportunity.
